Skechers Shape-ups

We've all seen the commercials or heard the buzz about Sketchers Shape-ups. There is a lot of hype out there about them:

Improves Posture
Improves Blood Circulation
Strengthens the Back
Tightens Abdominal Muscles
Firms Buttock Muscles
Reduces Cellulite and Tones Thighs
Firms Calf Muscles

That is a lot to promise in one pair of shoes. Considering they cost $100, it is more than a pair of Jordan's can offer or a pair of Nike Shocks. I took the plunge and I bought a pear. They are big and bulky, not the cutest but there was a decent variety in color, I picked a pair that I thought looked fairly decent, silver and hot pink... pretty cute colors for tennis shoes... excuse me, fitness footwear!

When I bought them, I couldn't wait to get them on... I was ready to tone and burn the fat away with my shoes. They came with a DVD (are you serious) and an instructional booklet. Who needs instructional booklets for shoes, come on... someone just wants me to feel good about spending $100, right?

No, you need to read the manual. I think the shoes have great potential but I couldn't understand why I was in so much pain... Well first there is an art to walking in these babies... heel toe, heel toe. Another thing, you should only wear it for 30-45 minutes a day for a week or so, to allow your body to adjust. I wish that I would have read that before I went on my 2 mile walk today... oh man, momma was hurting... but in a good way. I could feel a burn in my calf and behind my legs below my bottom. Interesting, hmmm? I thought so myself.

Needless to day, tomorrow I am going to find the time to watch the video to make sure I really am walking correctly. I get measured on Wednesday at the gym... it will be my month one measurement results... I wonder what month two will look like with my continued dedication to eating healthy, working out and wearing the much talked about Shape-ups? I will keep you guys posted.

One thing is for sure, you will get some attention with these on your feet. I have had atleast 6 people approach me about the shoe in the last 48 hours (which 36 were spent indoors).

I've heard nothing but good things and so far, they have two thumbs up from me :)

  2. They are getting better, it takes some time to get used to. I am only wearing them about two hours a day right now but it is getting better, I feel it in the back of my legs below my bum bum!

  3. I just found your blog this morning thanks to Spark and the eggplant recipe. SO glad that I did! Before Skechers came out with their version I bought a couple of pairs of MBTs (a pricier version but same basic deal) -- one pair of sneakers and one pair of black Mary Janes that I wear to work. I've had my Mary Janes for a couple of years now and STILL love them :)

  4. The company I work for actually sells Shape Ups, so I thought I'd try a pair. I agree that they're not cheap, but I've been really happy with them and lost a few pounds by walking in them regularly.

  5. Way to go! I am glad your liking your Shape-ups, I enjoy mine as well but they are meant for walking only, no stationary exercise in those babies... in my opinion at least :)

  6. Hello overcoming(and succeeding)in your obesity battle. . I just found your blog as I bought a pair of shape-ups and DIDN'T read the video as like you I thought, pffftttt!! Video-smideo. . I have tripped at least 3-4 times a day since putting them on. .LOL! I am a nurse and like always with everything I do - I just jumped right into those babies and wore them at work. . ouuccchhhh. . . my legs. . but I really do like them. I just wonder what the 'experts' say - like the ortho guys or better yet - podiatrist...which is how I found your blog. . .I wanted to find out how well they worked and really . . their authenticity. I must say though - looking like a baby giraffe just being born, when I first put them on - is but a distant memory now! Like you - I struggled with my weight my entire life and only after surviving a significant loss in my life (October 2008 and bringing that loss full circle Valentine's Day 2009) did my life dramatically change. I am now 70 pounds lighter and TOTALLY LOVING MY BODY. . rolls, wrinkles and all. . beauty is not a number on the scale or a size in your closet my friend but about truly realizing the magnificant you waiting to bloom! After grief took the intial weight off - I simply made a choice to live life fuller and that meant - finding me again. . Good luck in your journey and God Bless. . - Christine

  7. I purchased a pair of Sketchers Shape-Up shoes and watched the video. Walked in them for about 20 minutes when I found myself on the ground in excruciating pain. I had tripped on an uneven ground and the high platform sole caused my fall twisting my ankle and breaking it. Yes, I am writing as bags of ice are covering my ankle and foot and taking meds every 4 hrs. If all goes well I may be able to walk again in 6 weeks!!. Watch out for those Shapeups!

  8. No, those shoes were a scam! Sketchers was sued successfully for like 300M over them. Just buy a good pair of gym sneakers and workout.
